Fall splendor at St. Anthony Main

The St. Anthony Main Event Center looked fabulous last Friday for the reception of Jennifer and Jeremy. I worked together with the bride and Molly of Molly's Flower Studio to create centerpiece looks on all of the cocktail and guest tables on both floors of the center. The lovely flowers were by Molly and the tall cylinders, Santa Monica centerpieces, and votives were rented from MBellish.

A lot of Manhattan in St. Paul

This August I had the pleasure to work with Jennifer at Sitting Pretty to help put together centerpieces for a large corporate function at the Crowne Plaza in St. Paul. All of the table linens and chair covers were from Sitting Pretty, the flowers were by Spruce, and the Manhattans and votives were from MBellish. There were 80 tables which had to be set in only two hours! It was the busiest set-up I've ever been a part of, but the energy and excitement were exhilarating!

Magenta orchids

This spring I had the pleasure of decorating a bridal shower -- a BIG bridal shower -- 100 guests! We used the three sizes of square vases, floating candles, and magenta dendrobium orchids to create this elegant look. The three vases were placed on a 14" square mirror.

Lovely reception at 413 on Wacouta

I recently helped decorate the reception of Missy and Matt at the wonderful 413 on Wacouta space in St. Paul. I love the lights at 413 that shine down on the table centerpieces. There was a gorgeous floral centerpiece from Sassafras on half the tables (flanked with Elegant Votives) and the MBellish Santa Monica centerpiece on the other half of the tables. There were also two Santa Monica down the harvest/head table. These pieces were accented by lots of white flowers from Sassafras and were on a 12" square mirror. A lovely winter wedding!

New Years Eve reception at the Westin

I had the pleasure to decorate Clare and Paul's New Years Eve wedding. What fun to attend such a celebration on New Years! They had their reception at the Westin in Edina, which I love. It is so elegant and classy.

Clare chose three different centerpieces:
- a trio of tall MBellish cylinders on a 14" round mirror with submerged orchids and floating candles
- a trio of shorter cylinders (the Melrose) on a 12x18" rectangular mirror with submerged orchids and floating candles
- and the Bel Air candelabra on a 12" square mirror

A Wedding to Remember

The craziest MBellish experience I've had yet is getting back and forth from decorating Krista and Jesse's wedding on December 11, 2010....the day of the enormous snowstorm! I was so grateful my husband drives a 4x4 truck, otherwise I'm not sure I would have made it to Raspberry Island's Boat Club! During the adventure, I helped push several stuck cars, got stuck twice myself, and was stuck behind a woman pregnant with twins on 494 who I ended up safely taking back to my home (true story!).

Krista and Jesse are such a sweet couple I was so happy to get there for them and help make the Boat Club beautiful. It sounds like the bride was a trooper and took some fun pictures out in the snow. Krista chose the Venice centerpiece and elegant votives, accented by deep red roses petals by Molly's Flower Studio.

My brother's wedding!

I am elated to post pictures from my brother, Bill's, wedding on 10/15. Bill and his new bride, Erin, planned a spectacular event in Rochester, MN, capping off with their reception at the Rochester Golf and Country Club. It was so much fun and so special to see my one and only sibling get married to a wonderful woman.

MBellish, of course, helped out with their decor. At the rehearsal dinner at the fabulous Rainbow Cafe in Pine Island, we used the Sausalito mosaic hurricanes surrounded by bittersweet and gourds. At the wedding reception, we used the Venice centerpiece on all of their guest tables, surrounded by five elegant votives and voodoo orange rose petals. On their cocktail tables, they used our trio of square vases with submerged orchids (noorah blue, tangerine and buffalo orange mokaras) with ivory floating candles. Their entry way tables were accented with our Sausalito mosaic hurricanes, and their head table was accented with our tall cylinders, kept simple with water and ivory floating candles. The stunning fall flowers were by Everyday Bouquets of Rochester.

Fall elegance at Rush Creek

Rush Creek is the perfect venue for the fall, with amazing views of the golf course and the surrounding nature. Here are a few pictures from a wedding set-up I did there in September. On Wednesday, September 15th I had a ton of fun attending, and helping decorate, theknot.com networking event at 413 on Wacouta in St. Paul. My wonderful and talented friend Carra of La Petit Fleur kindly asked me to help contribute some rentals to go along with her flowers. I was completely impressed by what Carra and the other vendors put together! 413 on Wacouta was a charming and impressive space which can host both your ceremony and reception. Lynn, the owner, was so sweet, she makes the space even more lovely.

Here are some pictures from the event. The decorations you see are the Manhattan and beaded votives from MBellish, gorgeous florals from La Petit Fleu r, and super cool ice sculptures from Metro Ice.

Make it Grand!

MBellish is excited to be part of a new vendor marketplace called Make it Grand! It's a darling space on Grand Avenue, across from Kowalski's and a block down from The Wedding Shoppe.

Make it Grand is a one stop shop for people when they are looking to plan an event, with a community of event and wedding professionals offered in one location. MBellish has shelf space in the marketplace where we're displaying some of our centerpieces.

Sophistication at the Carlson Rotunda

I loved decorating for the first time at the Carlson Towers Rotunda. It had to be a quick turn-around, but it's always exciting to transform a space into something beautiful for the bride and groom. Here they used the Manhattan centerpiece and two floral looks from Molly's Flower Studio. I loved how the silver vases coordinated with the Manhattan.

I had the pleasure to both decorate, and attend, a friend's wedding in June in Ames, IA. Chrisy is a long-time family friend of my husband and she married a wonderful man named Kevin. I helped them acheive their desired look for their reception using lots of glassware and mirrors from MBellish. Here are some photos of their cocktail table decorations (using an MBellish mirror and our modern votives), head/harvest table (where they used lots of Melrose cylinders) and one of their centerpiece looks (using a mirror and the tall cylinders from MBellish and submerging magenta dendrobium orchids). It was a delight to help them decorate and to celebrate their very special occasion!

A classy affair at the Graves 601

In coordination with Molly's Flower Studio, MBellish helped decorate a February reception at the Graves Hotel. Molly and the bride, Jennifer, incorporated shades of blue to coordinate with the blue glass highlight walls in the ballroom. There were four different settings, as pictured, and each was spectacular. The bride rented tall cylinders and square vases from MBellish as shown in the first and fourth centerpiece groupings, along with votive holders sprinkled throughout.

Pretty New Candelabra!

I'm so excited to show you a new candelabra I now offer at MBellish. I need to get better pictures though, these don't do it justice...it's so much prettier in person.

This piece has a lovely, shiny silver finish and nine votive cups at staggered heights. It looks like pure modern elegance to me. It is brilliant on its own or can be dressed up with rose petals or a floral centerpiece in the middle. There is plenty of room in the middle of these piece to design a fantastic floral arrangement, surrounded by candlelight.

Winter Beauty at the Nicolett Island Pavillion

Yesterday I had a wonderful time decorating the Nicolett Island Pavilion for Kelly and Justin's winter wedding. Kelly made many lovely decisions for her flowers and decor, using deep red and black as her colors. She used the Madrid centerpiece with a 12" square mirror and red votives on half of her tables, and a dozen red roses in a coordinating vase on the others. Enjoy the lovely pictures below. Modern elegance in Mankato

Amazing, amazing orchids

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of helping the wonderfully talented florist, Molly, decorate her client's reception at the Westin Galleria in Edina. This was my first time at this space and I loved it. Simple, elegant, and modern...but oh boy did Molly's flowers brighten up the space; it was breathtaking after we finished decorating. Molly and the bride decided on using mostly orchids...lots of varieties and colors. They were amazing. The precious flowers floated in water in two different cylinder groupings, along with a third setting of a tall floral. Incredible. I wish I could have been there at night to see the candles glowing and the flowers shining through the glass.
In the pictures below, the tall set of three cylinders are new items I now offer for rent! They are 12", 16", and 24" glass cylinders. They are heavy-bottom, high quality glass cylinders that are perfect to get some height into your reception and to mix and match with another centerpiece setting. The cylinder groupings sat on rented 14" round mirrors.

Beauty in Purple and Gold

For Jaci and Paul's 9/26/09 wedding, I had the pleasure of working with my friend Carra at La Petit Fleur to use MBellish pieces to accent her gorgeous flowers. Because the bride wanted purple and gold, she used the purple bubble votives around Carra's fabulous hurricane designs and used the Venice piece as one of her three centerpiece groupings. Wow!

University of St. Thomas Reunion

On October 10th I decorated, and attended, my 10 year reunion at the University of St. Thomas. It was a really fun event, held at our south campus cafeteria. The MBellish pieces really turned the cafeteria into an elegant affair! I used the Manhattan centerpiece as one setting and three beaded votives on a 12" round mirror as another. Thank you to Molly for suggesting I kick things up a notch by adding the purple dendrobium orchids.

On July 18th, I enjoyed decorating at my friend Angie's reception at the Little Log House Pioneer Village in Hastings. It's a charming hall in the middle of the country - really quaint and fun. Angie jazzed up the hall's basic linens by adding hot pink runners. They looked great! I thoroughly enjoyed setting up for the reception of Megan and Ramsey at the St. Paul Hotel on July 25th. Megan, along with the help of her florist Molly, did an amazing job selecting three different centerpieces to decorate the intimate ballroom. She used one floral centerpiece in a gold square vase, the Venice centerpiece (with the brushed gold stand), and the Sausalito centerpiece (which has a soft gold rim and ivory mosaic) accented by pink orchids . New Item - Square Vases

We are excited to offer a new centerpiece option! Our square vases offer a clean, modern look that is perfect for all of your tables or wonderful to mix-and-match with another piece. They are heavy, handblown glass pieces. The group of three consists of the following sizes: 4"x4"x4", 4"x4"x6", and 4"x4"x8". A 3" floating candle fits perfectly in these pieces. They can be rented as a group or separately.

These pieces were first used on May 2nd at the Habitat for Humanity Hard Hat and Black Tie Gala held at the Marriott City Center. MBellish donated rental items for this event and helped coordinate and organize their decorations. They had 70 tables and went with three different centerpieces. One grouping was the Manhattan with orange roses and green mini-orchids. The second was the tall square vase (with an orange tulip and a floating candle) with two Beaded Votives, accented by green and orange rose petals and green mini-orchids. The third was a grouping of the three square vases (one with a green hydrangea, one with decorative silver wire, and the third with decorative grasses) and two Beaded Votives, accented by green and orange rose petals and green mini-orchids. I Do Vow To....reduce wedding waste

I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with Amy Rubins of Fete Perfection. She is a passionate, intelligent, and highly motivated event planner in the Twin Cities.

I applaud her recent efforts of creating the blog site and the general mission of "I Do Vow To." The efforts and communication she is hoping to foster are in regard to eliminating unnecessary wedding waste. Many weddings and events create dumpsters full of garbage after the event. We both challenge those planning events to think through how things they use in their events can be used for other purposes after the event.

I'm proud that renting decorations is a small way to help make your wedding "green." With renting, no new packaging is created, nothing is thrown away after the event (or stored in your closet for years to come), and the pieces can be re-used and enjoyed by others.

If you have already decided that you are going to do your wedding flowers yourself, we will teach you how to design your boutonnieres, corsages and bouquets as well as be able to answer any specific design questions you may have. Taste of the Nation Event

On September 14th, MBellish donated decorations for the Taste of the Nation event. This is a wonderful event to raise funds to work toward ending childhood hunger. The event is a "foodies" dream - each table has their own celebrity chef that prepares a multi-course meal. This year featured chefs from such places as B.A.N.K., Oceanaire, Restaurant Alma and W.A. Frost. It was held at the Graves 601 Hotel where they used the Manhattan and Sausalito centerpieces, beaded votives, and mirrors to decorate the space. Beatuiful wedding at Lafayette Club

I had the pleasure of helping decorate and set up at the wedding of Lindsey and J.R. on August 23rd at the Lafayette Club on Lake Minnetonka. They, with the help of their florist Molly, came up with really interesting and beautiful ways to use the Manhattan centerpiece.

They had three different centerpieces in the room. One was the complete Manhattan with a vase of a dozen red roses inside...what normally would have been a plain glass vase of roses was made absolutely spectacular by using these beaded hurricanes. The second centerpiece was using just the pewter base of the Manhattan with a simple glass hurricane, pillar candle, and red rose petals...extremely elegant and pretty. The third centerpiece was a tall riser with a large red rose topiary at the top - amazing! The combination and balance of these three centerpieces was perfect in the room.

On Wednesday, March 5th, M|Bellish, together with Sadie's Fine Floral Design, put together an exhibit booth for the Event Planners and Suppliers Expo show. Sadie and I were proud of how pretty our booth turned out and of the spring-like ideas we displayed.

Centerpiece Idea: Simple Bowls

A simple, pretty clear glass bowl can be transformed into something truly elegant for your table centerpiece. Oftentimes the simplest ideas are the most beautiful; for example, floating a large, beautiful flower bud in water can be stunning or packing a bowl full of floating white candles of different sizes adds a romantic glow. This type of centerpiece can also easily be mixed and matched with another setting of your choice; for example, mix up your tables by using flowers on one table and floating candles on the next.

Here are some ideas on how to turn the Charlotte bowl into something memorable:

1) Fill the bottom of the bowl with small rocks (available at craft stores), water, small floral stems, and a couple of floating candles:

2) Simply fill the bowl with water and floating candles in different sizes:

3) Put a small amount of water in the bowl. Place a pillar candle in the center of the bowl (you'll need to check to see if your reception hall allows "open flames") and float fresh flowers in the water around the candle:

Centerpiece Idea: Madrid Options

The Madrid centerpiece is a unique piece that can be used in many ways. Here are some of my favorite ideas:

1) Fill the center glass cylinder with water and float one large fresh floral bud in the water. This looks simple and beautiful. Scatter a few votive holders around the base of the centerpiece to add candlelight.

2) Fill the center glass cylinder with fresh fruit - purple, wine grapes or lemons and limes.

3) As pictured, place a ball candle in the glass cylinder. Tuck fresh flower buds into the base of the piece.

Centerpiece Idea: The Santa Monica

Our most popular piece, the Santa Monica can be tailored many ways to incorporate your special event's colors, style and budget. Here are a few ideas:

- Have your florist use floral foam and create a wreath filled with beautiful fresh flowers (as pictured below).
- Buy a 6" grapevine wreath and tuck fresh or silk flowers into the wreath.
- Buy two stems of beaded garland and wrap around the base.
- Use a 12" round mirror and scatter fresh or silk rose petals on the mirror, around the base of the centerpiece. Place a flower bud or two on the mirror.

Below are four ideas for how to use the Melrose cylinders for a unique and beautiful centerpiece. You can rent these cylinders as a group of three, as individual pieces, and with or without the candle cup inserts.

New Centerpiece - Tealight Cylinders

Using the Savannah double-walled bowl, wrap orchid stems around the bowl. Fill the bowl with water and float simple white candles and a coordinating flower bud. Wow! Simply stunning, modern, and elegant.

On Sunday, September 30th, 2007, Sadie, of Sadie's Fine Floral Design, and I participated in a photo shoot where a professional photographer, Jennifer Spencer, shot photos of Sadie's flowers and M|Bellish rental pieces. We had an amazing day and can't wait to see the professional photos. Here are some snapshots we took of our set-up and the work in progress.

Centerpiece Idea: Clever use of Cylinders

Using different heights of the Melrose cylinders, place white pillar candles in the cylinders. Use other cylinders for bursts of color with fresh flowers. A simple, beautiful arrangement! It also is a big bonus to have long lasting candlelight by using the pillar candles.

For the cylinders with candles, it's very pretty to put a little white sand or green garden moss at the bottom of the cylinder for a soft, natural look.

I'm excited to announce that this fall the M|Bellish web site will be updated to include pictures of our pieces incorporating fresh flowers. I love how the vibrant colors and beauty of fresh flowers make our pieces come alive! Sadie, of Sadie's Fine Floral Design, is designing the floral pieces to accent the M|Bellish centerpieces.

We work with florists all the time to add fresh flowers to M|Bellish pieces. We try to make things as easy as possible for you by dealing directly with your florist and providing them a sample of your rented items to borrow to design what you need.

Combining flowers and candles is a huge trend right now for reception decor. Oftentimes they are combined in the same centerpiece or many brides mix-and-max their tables (have flowers on one table and candles on the next). Either way, incorporating both candles and flowers into your decor is stunning and romantic.

Our most popular piece, the Santa Monica, looks amazing with a fresh floral wreath around the bottom, as does the Bel Air. A simple addition to our candle pieces is always fresh flower petals or buds scattered on the mirror - a beautiful way to add life and color to your centerpiece.

What services do we offer?

Here is a summary of services we offer (beyond the basic renting of our items):

- You can pick up and drop off your rental items at my home office for no charge. We can be very flexible as to the times you pick up and drop off the items (these times will depend on our rental schedule and if someone is renting the items the weekend before or after when you need them). Brides will often utilize friends or family members to help with this. We work with many out of town brides as well where their friend or relative in the Twin Cities coordinates with us for pick up and delivery.

- If you're looking for complete convenience, we offer delivery and pick-up of our items (please ask us for a price quote). We typically deliver the morning of the event and pick-up the next day, but can work with your schedule and that of your reception hall or venue. The items arrive safely boxed when delivered and should be re-boxed when we pick them up.

- We love to decorate, so we're thrilled when brides ask us to help decorate their reception. We will set up your rental pieces with candles you provide and do any other decorating tasks you need (examples include setting out favors, petals, hanging tulle, decorating the guestbook table, etc.). Please let us know what you need help with and we'll provide you with a price estimate based on your number of tables and details provided.

Sometimes I think it helps to know who you may be going into business with... I am a wife and mother of two young boys who lives in a southeast suburb of St. Paul. I operate M|Bellish while being a full-time Mom. I very much enjoy having a business of my own to provide me with a creative outlet. After having a baby, I left a career in software consulting and started M|Bellish (for reasons you can read about in my earlier posting 'Why M|Bellish?'). In my personal life, I have a passion for interior decorating, cooking, and entertaining so M|Bellish is a wonderful way to combine my technical, organizational, and creative talents to offer brides and grooms wonderful products and personalized service.

I operate M|Bellish from my home office. I love to meet with brides, grooms and their families here to show them the pieces and discuss ideas for decorating their reception. All of the pieces look much prettier in person, so it's a great idea to come see them. Brides oftentimes will change their minds on their "favorite" once they see everything. I am happy to offer ideas on how to incorporate your wedding day colors and style using our pieces.

Because of my flexible schedule, I really can devote the time couples need to get all of their details perfect. I respond quickly to all of your questions, can work with most any schedule for appointments or deliveries, and can provide very personalized service. This can be a huge benefit to know I care about everything being perfect for you and no detail will get lost.

Why M|Bellish?

When planning my own wedding, I searched for unique table decorations that would meet my budget. I wanted something where I could incorporate my wedding day colors, something that would be unique, and something my guests would remember. All I could find were things I'd seen used in many other weddings and were, quite frankly, dull. I ended up with flowers, and I love fresh flowers, but I was disappointed in what I got for my money.

With M|Bellish, I try to offer brides the opportunity to really "wow" their guests with a stunning centerpiece they've never seen before. All of our pieces can be enhanced my adding color, decorations, and flowers. Also, what is more romantic than candlelight?
